Governor Vessel & Conception Vessel

Governor Vessel (Du Meridian)

The Governor Vessel (Du Meridian) starts from the lower abdomen, runs along the posterior midline of the body (spine, back, nape, head), and ends at the upper lip. It governs the body’s yang qi, connecting with the brain, spinal cord, and yang-related structures for overall yang-qi regulation.

Origin:Begins from the uterus (lower abdomen, linked to the root of life). Internally, it connects to the brain, spinal cord, and associates with the kidney (source of congenital qi).

Upward Course:Ascends from the lower abdomen along the posterior midline through the lumbosacral region (Mingmen, GV4 - related) and up the spine.

Superficial Path:Starts at the lumbosacral region, runs up the back’s posterior midline (via Dazhui, GV14 at the nape) to the occipital region, then to the head-top (Baihui, GV20). Proceeds along the head’s anterior midline to the forehead, nose bridge (Suliao, GV25), and upper lip (Yinjiao, GV28), connecting with the Conception Vessel at the gum.

Branch 1:Emerges from the occipital region, enters the brain, connects with cerebral meridians, and communicates with the brain, spirit, and sensory regions.

Branch 2:From the lumbar-spinal path, a branch descends to connect with the kidney (via Governor Vessel - kidney link, storing congenital qi). Another spreads through the back to link with the Bladder Meridian (para - spinal muscles), influencing back muscles, spine, and whole-body yang-qi regulation.

Conception Vessel

The Conception Vessel (Ren Meridian) starts from the lower abdomen, runs along the anterior midline of the body (abdomen, chest, neck, face), governing the body’s yin qi, and connecting with the uterus, heart, lungs, etc. for yin-qi regulation.

Origin: Begins from the uterus (lower abdomen, a source of congenital essence), internally connecting to the uterus, heart, lungs, and associating with the kidney and thoroughfare vessel.

Upward Course: Ascends from the lower abdomen along the anterior midline through the pubic region and up the abdomen.

Superficial Path: Starts at the pubic region, runs up the abdomen’s anterior midline (via Guanyuan, RN4; Zhongwan, RN12) to the chest (Tanzhong, RN17), then to the neck and lower chin (Chengjiang, RN24), coordinating with the Governor Vessel at the perineum.

Branch 1: Emerges from the chest, connects with the heart-enclosing meridian and lungs, influencing chest qi - blood, emotions, and respiration.

Branch 2: From the abdomen, one branch connects with the spleen and stomach (acquired qi source) for digestion; another ascends to the throat, relating to throat functions and qi movement.
