Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian & Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian

Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian

The Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian starts from the inner canthus of the eye, runs along the head, neck, back, and lower limb to the little toe, connecting to the bladder and communicating with the brain and spinal cord.

Head and Neck Section:Begins at the inner canthus of the eye (Zanzhu, BL1), ascends along the forehead to the top of the head (Baihui, DU20, connecting with the Governor Vessel). A branch from the top of the head enters the brain, then descends along the neck to the shoulder blade region (Tianzhu, BL10; Fengmen, BL12; Feishu, BL13, etc.).

Back and Limb Section:From the shoulder blade region, the main meridian descends along the inner edge of the scapula, passing through the waist (Shenshu, BL23; Dachangshu, BL25, etc.), to the buttock (Zhibian, BL54), then along the posterior aspect of the thigh, calf, and foot, ending at the lateral side of the little toe (Zhiyin, BL67, connecting with the Foot - Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian). Another branch from the heel runs along the medial side of the foot to the inner canthus (connecting with the starting point).

Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian

The Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian starts from the plantar aspect of the little toe, ascends along the medial side of the lower limb, and connects with the kidney, bladder, lung, and heart, regulating water metabolism and reproductive functions.

Origin:It originates from the plantar region below the little toe (Yongquan, KI1), ascends along the sole to the medial malleolus, and connects with the kidney via the heel. From the kidney, it diverges to link the bladder, forming the meridian’s primary visceral connection.

Upward Course:Passing through the spinal column, it pertains to the kidney, ascends through the liver and diaphragm, enters the lung, follows the throat, and terminates at both sides of the root of the tongue. A branch from the lung connects with the heart, flowing into the chest to link with the Hand-Jueyin Pericardium Meridian.

Superficial Path:Starting from the medial malleolus (Taixi, KI3), it ascends along the posterior border of the medial lower limb, through the calf (behind the medial gastrocnemius), up the medial thigh, and terminates at the lower abdomen (Henggu, KI11). It runs superficially along the medial edge of the Achilles tendon, with key points like Zhaohai (KI6) and Fuliu (KI7).

Branch:Emerging from the popliteal fossa (Yingu, KI10), the branch descends to the heel and diverges along the plantar surface. Another collateral branch at the ankle (Dazhong, KI4, Luo-point) connects with the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian, forming a cross-meridian link.
